Contract and Pension!
Posted January 9, 2026

Welcome back and Happy New Year to everyone. We hope you enjoyed the holidays and had the opportunity to spend some quality time with the people you love. As you all should know, both the contracts for Painters and Tapers will be expiring in June. Local 3 sent out a Unite message on Tuesday with a questionnaire requesting feedback on what our membership would like to see on this upcoming contract. We are asking that everyone take a few minutes to give us some feedback. We will be presenting all compiled data to BM/ST Williams for negotiations. We would also like to thank everyone that has replied already. If you haven’t received the text, please contact your business rep. As we prepare for the expiration of our contracts, please start preparing for the possibility of a strike by saving some money just in case. Remember that all voices matter and we are stronger together. In solidarity!

Did you know that to be eligible to receive your pension you must first be “vested”. Vesting is the process of earning full ownership of employer-provided benefits. To become vested in your Painters or Tapers Pension you must accumulate 5 full credits. Credits are earned based on the number of hours worked during a calendar year. Here is the breakdown.
0-399hrs= 0 credits 400-699hrs= ½ credit
700-999hrs= ¾ credit 1000+hrs= 1 credit
Visit the Bay Area Painters and Tapers Pension Trust Fund website and create an account at https://bayareapainterstrust.org/ to check your hours and see if you are vested.
