Your Voice Matters

Posted August 8, 2025

Brothers and Sisters,

This summer has been a busy one for painters, and while some projects are starting to wind down, the future work outlook remains strong. We have several school projects on the horizon, and major jobs like the Kaiser facility in Roseville are already in full swing. There’s also the Kaiser project at the Railyards near Downtown Sacramento, a new Sutter Medical Office Building in Folsom that just broke ground, and the California Tower at UC Davis Medical Center, which is rising fast.

These are just a few of the larger projects. We also have work coming up at the Sacramento Airport, along with numerous other opportunities up and down the Valley.

A significant portion of this upcoming work falls under Project Labor Agreements (PLAs) or Community Workforce Training Agreements (CWTAs). These agreements wouldn’t be possible without the tireless efforts of the affiliated unions of the local Building Trades Councils. Their commitment to building strong relationships has helped secure these agreements and ensured that Union contractors are guaranteed a seat at the table.

But the work doesn’t stop here—we still have more to do to secure additional agreements and expand job opportunities for our members.

That’s why your support is needed at an important upcoming meeting:

📅 Tuesday, August 12
🕘 9:00 AM
📍 San Joaquin County Board of Supervisors Meeting
44 N San Joaquin St, Stockton, CA – 6th Floor

On the agenda is a County-Wide Community Workforce Training Agreement that would cover all county-funded construction projects. This would be a huge win for local workers, as it includes local hire requirements, helping ensure that San Joaquin County residents are put to work on projects in their own communities.

We’re asking any local residents and allies who are available to attend the meeting and speak in support of the agreement. Your voice matters and can make a real difference.

In solidarity,

William Gonzalez

Regional Director
