On Tuesday, August 12th the East Bay team attended the Union City Council Meeting at City Hall in Union City to support the vote that would bring a PLA to the city after a battle that has lasted over two years. There were about 50 union members from various respected trades there to support this vote. Although there was some opposition from the Carpenters union, the PLA vote was passed 5-0. A Project Labor Agreement (PLA) is a pre-hire collective bargaining agreement on a specific construction project that sets employment terms, aims to prevent labor disputes, and establishes procedures for resolving conflicts, such as strikes. PLAs, used on both public and private projects, ensure a stable workforce, on-time completion, and fair wages for all workers on these projects. This will be beneficial for all of our membership.

Labor Day Vector Art, Icons, and Graphics for Free Download

Next week, August 29th– September 1st we will have a four-day weekend to celebrate Labors Day. Did you know that Labor Day’s purpose is to celebrate and recognize the social and economic contributions of American workers to the nation’s strength, prosperity, and well-being. Originating from the labor movement’s fight for better working conditions in the late 19th century, the holiday became a federal holiday in 1894. It also traditionally marks the unofficial end of summer. We would like to thank all our members within DC16 for their everyday contributions that make our communities what they are. Enjoy this time with your families and do something fun and memorable. You all deserve it!!
