Get Ready!

On Tuesday, August 12^th the East Bay team attended the Union City Council Meeting at City Hall in Union City to support the vote that would bring a PLA to the city after a battle that has lasted over two years. There were about 50 union members from various respected trades there to support this vote. Although there was some opposition from the Carpenters union, the PLA vote was passed 5-0. A Project Labor Agreement (PLA) is a pre-hire collective bargaining agreement on a specific construction project that sets employment terms, aims to prevent labor disputes, and establishes procedures for resolving conflicts, such as strikes. PLAs, used on both public and private projects, ensure a stable workforce, on-time completion, and fair wages for all workers on these projects. This will be beneficial for all of our membership.

Get ready everyone because the time is almost here. DC16 will be hosting our annual STARs event on Saturday September 6^th at 400 Gandy Dancer Dr., Tracy CA from 8am-2pm and Sunday September 7^th at 3601 Parkway Pl., W. Sacramento CA from 8am-2pm. This will be a drive-through event, and all CA attendees must be here before 2pm to pick up prizes. Please be sure to bring a photo identification. There will be no exceptions.

Please be advised that an Allocation Vote has been scheduled for 5:00 pm on Tuesday, September 30^th, 2025, at 2020 Williams St Suite A1, San Leandro, CA 94577. Painters and Drywall Finishers will vote to allocate ten cents (0.10) to the STAR program. Members may vote with their current ID. 

Next week, August 29^th– September 1^st we will have a four-day weekend to celebrate Labors Day. Did you know that Labor Day’s purpose is to celebrate and recognize the social and economic contributions of American workers to the nation’s strength, prosperity, and well-being. Originating from the labor movement’s fight for better working conditions in the late 19th century, the holiday became a federal holiday in 1894. It also traditionally marks the unofficial end of summer. We would like to thank all our members within DC16 for their everyday contributions that make our communities what they are.
