Work Outlook for 2021

Posted January 1, 2021

Work is slowing down and 2021 does not look to be as busy as the prior years (2015-2020). We have had a very healthy 5 year run in which Painters and Drywall Finishers have been working steady with many overtime opportunities. I hope that most of you have been padding your vacation/holiday savings to be ready for the slowdown which is part of the cycle of Boom and Bust in our construction Industry. I remember during the “Great Recession” (2008-2014) many of our members suffered high unemployment and economic hardships. My advice is to live and budget from the regular work hours and save the overtime and vacation/holiday for the inevitable downturns that happen periodically in our Industry. Perhaps after the holidays the work requests will increase as many decision makers (Project Managers, Estimators etc.) in our Industry take vacation at this time of the year and work requests slow down as a result.

I want to take this opportunity to wish the membership of local 3 Happy Holidays to those that celebrate this season and please be safe for your families.
