Work Outlook

Posted August 16, 2021

Brothers and Sisters,

The work outlook in the Central Valley is very good.  We have several projects coming out of the ground that will help get us through the winter months.  The Richard’s Street project, Sacramento Courthouse, Capitol Annex and CALSTER’s new building have all started.  We have seen major growth in the Sacramento area with much of it coming from schools, Department of General Services and commercial housing.

If you are not working you need to call the union hall and put yourself on the Out of Work List.  And to remain on the list you must call back on the first day of the month.  We do not put you on the new list unless you call in.

We have also received calls from the Employment Development Department (EDD) asking if certain members are currently on the Out of Work List.  We will not lie on behalf of any member.  If you are not on the list that is your fault not the union’s.

Apprentices who are not working should not only be on the list but should be calling their Business Rep. or Organizer to see if there is any DAS-142 (non-union) assignments available.  If you are not working right now it’s because you’re not on the list. I have several Sacramento contractors looking for journeyman and apprentices, and I can’t fulfill their request. If you have any questions or comments, please call me at (916)407-8279.
