Upcoming DDO’s and Holidays

Posted November 22, 2021

After the Veterans Day Holiday I received a few calls from members who weren’t sure if it was a holiday or a Designated Day Off (DDO).  Per the Master Agreement Veteran’s Day is listed as a DDO, this means that if you worked, you should have be paid at time and a half.  Several members informed me that Veteran’s is a Federal holiday, it does not matter if it is a Federal holiday it’s what was negotiated in the contract.  Veteran’s Day was negotiated as a DDO.  In the middle of the Master Agreement or online, you can see the negotiated Holiday’s and DDO’s.

Next week is Thanksgiving and Thursday and Friday were negotiated as Holidays, so both are paid at double time.  The Master Agreement also reads that if there is a four-day weekend that all four days are paid at double time.

Next month Christmas Day and New Years Day is on Saturday.  If a holiday falls on a Saturday, your day off would be on Friday.  If a holiday falls on a Sunday, your day off would be on Monday.  So for Christmas and New Years day, your day off will be on Friday. I have also been told that several of the shops have said that a DDO was paid at straight time if the member agrees to work.  This is false!  If you work on a DDO it is paid at time and half, with no exceptions.  If you think that you were paid improperly, please give me a call and I will look over your check stub.

I hope you have a safe and Happy Thanksgiving.  If you have any questions, please contact me at (916)407-8279.
