Transformation of the SF Rail Yard & Potrero Power Station

Posted August 8, 2025

The San Francisco Building Trades has landed an all-Union commitment from Prologis on the 20-acre parcel that is the San Francisco Rail yard. The redevelopment has plans for a cluster of towers, one being 850ft. tall! As well as parks and other use areas. Below is a map of the Area.

While this particular project is a ways down the road, it’s a good sign of the economic recovery of the City. As we know too well, San Francisco is one of the slowest major cities in the country to bounce back from covid. But projects such as this shows that we are investing in our future.

The Potrero Power Station is another good example of the bounce back. This project is currently underway in the Dog Patch District between 22nd & 24th Street. Our Union members, as well as members from other building trades Unions, are breathing new life into the run down old industrial part of the city. Residential, Retail, Hotels & Medical Facilities will fill this under-utilized space helping to quell the city’s housing problem as well as refurbishing the old historical smokestack that is a prominent historical land mark in that part of town. This is a private development that is being done under an All-Union Project Labor Agreement.
