This is Going to Hurt

Posted April 2, 2026

Brothers and Sisters,

I hope this article finds you and yours enjoying the short break (it’s currently raining) from the past few weeks of unusually hot days. Being that it is April 1st, that means Major League Baseball is in full swing, GO GIANTS! I want to take this time to talk about our upcoming wage allocation at the Membership Meeting on April 7th, we will be allocating our last contractual raise of $4.00 effective January 1, 2027. You might be asking why we are doing it in April? In past years we would do them in September or October and they would be posted by the DIR by January 1st of next year. Today you are lucky if they post in the first quarter of the year. So DC16 is proactive and we send them no later than July. If the DIR doesn’t post our wage increase by January 1st, the non-union can use last year’s rate until the new ones are posted.

Every year when we do our wage allocation there are several contractual obligations that need to be taken care of and one is maintenance of health and welfare. This year we are being told that we need to allocate .75¢ due to major increases, if the total amount is less than .75¢ the remainder will be added to the annuity. The IUPAT Admin Dues will increase by .10¢, and we need to increase our FTI (apprenticeship program) contribution to .14¢, that leaves us $3.01 to allocate as we please. As your Business Rep. I would also recommend putting money into Market Recovery as this fund helps us procure more work hours and a bigger market share. That leaves us only 2 other places to put our monies, wages and annuity. I hope you will join us this coming Tuesday at 5:30 pm, so we can talk about this more.
