Out of Work?

Posted December 1, 2021

Winter is typically a slow time for construction and sometimes layoffs happen… When you are out-of-work, even if it is temporary and you plan to go back to the same company, make sure you call in to the Local to get your name on the Out-of-Work list in case things change.

A new Out-of-Work list is created at the beginning of every month and the following are the procedures:

District Council 16 By-laws: Section 18.06 It shall be the sole responsibility of each member, who is unemployed and wishes to make them self-available for work, to notify their Local Union of such and place their name on their Local Union’s Out-of-Work List. The Local Union’s Out-Of-Work List shall include the member’s name, classification, current telephone number and the date the member placed his or her name on the List. It shall be the sole responsibility of each member: who wishes to continue being available for dispatch and having their name remain on their Local Union’s Out-of-Work List, to check in with their Local on the first (1st) working day of each month. Members who do not check in on the first (1st) working day of each month shall have their names removed from their Local Union’s Out-of-Work List.
