STAR: A special call reallocation vote will be happening in the coming months to decide if the painters & tapers will re-allocate $0.10 cents from their annuity to put towards the STAR fund for the 2026 wage schedule. If the money is not reallocated, members will still be able to take classes and receive certifications through STAR but will not be invited to the STARs Awards & Raffle Party in 2026. Keep an eye on your mail for the notification and please make every effort to show up and have your voice heard. 

DC16 Bylaws: Throughout the month of July and into August, all DC16 Locals held DC16 Bylaw Ratification Votes at each of their Local Union meetings. The bylaws were approved by a 76% yes vote throughout DC16. Thank you to everyone who came out to participate in the vote. Each Local Union will be making amendments to their Local Bylaws in the near future. Keep in touch with the Hall for more information on when we will be voting to ratify Local Bylaws.

Contract Required Certifications: Just like 2025 had the Mobile Elevated Work Platforms, Fall Protection & Harassment Prevention for Commercial Painters and OSHA, Scaffold Training & Harassment Prevention for Industrial Painters,.

2026 will have a new round of certs required in order for Journey workers to receive a dispatch. These Certs include OSHA & Scaffold Training for Commercial Painters

And CAS Level 2 for Industrial Spray Painters and Blasters

And Hanging Platform Training, Mobile Elevated Work Platforms, and Fall Protection for Industrial Painters. 

Don’t wait until its time to get a dispatch! Sign up for classes now. Classes are available at DC16STAR.org week day classes are also being made available. Contact the hall if you want to get into a weekday class. Classes through STARs are held on Saturdays. Please note you will not be removed from the job for not having the cert, but if you change companies or need to be re dispatched for whatever reason, WE CANNOT DISPATCH YOU WITHOUT ALL REQUIRED CERTS!
