It’s In The Bylaws

Brothers and Sisters,

I hope this article finds you and yours doing well and trying to stay dry. If it is not raining, then it is the snow. During the second week of March our IUPAT General President Jimmy Williams Jr., and his staff will be visiting DC16 and their members. During their visit they will meet with the Executive Boards of locals 487,767, and 1237. During the visit with the Executive Board members, Jimmy will present Building Union Power and have conversations about the direction the IUPAT wants to lead us in. During this time Jimmy Jr. and his staff will also be visiting members on job sites speaking to them about their union and will attend several local union meetings.

The local 1237 Bylaws Committee has been working very diligently on the proposed bylaws for the members to vote on. The committee consists of Tim Ringor, Colby Rojas, Mike Zapata, Cris Rutter, Cody Hartwick, Monte Kozvan, Edward Valencia, Alex Beltran, Rafael Acosta, Vince Echeverria, John Harris, Timothy Tweedt, and me. Our local bylaws are what gives us autonomy, we have articles in our bylaws that pertain to local 1237 that are not in anyone else’s bylaws. Most of the articles and sections of our current bylaws will remain the same. Several things that will be changed and will need to be voted on by the membership are the Executive Board Officers’ stipend, local union delegates stipend, the addition of another member at large, and the possibility of changing the Membership Meeting Day. I encourage you to attend the March 3rd Membership Meeting where I will give an update on the progress of the Bylaws Committee.
