I Need Your Help

Posted May 29, 2026

Brothers and Sisters,

I hope this article finds you getting back to work after the 4-day Memorial Day Weekend. Work has been hit or miss lately for some, and others have been busy. I can never stress this enough, if you are not working, please put yourself on the out of work. This week I received a call from a contractor looking for journeymen and apprentices to work in the Modesto area for a few weeks than, they have a lot of work in the Sacramento area. We sent out a text message because we only had 3 people on the Out of Work List (OWL), and we had over 10 members calling for the information. If you are on the OWL, we know who to call. Also, if you have been out of work for 3 months (at no fault of your own) or more you can request dues assistance, but you must be on the OWL.

There will be an election on June 13, 2026, at various voting locations from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. You should have received in the mail all the election and voting information, if you didn’t, please call the office. As a member of Local 1237 for over 31 years, I have always voted on contracts, bylaws, wage allocations, and elections. I want to have my voice heard and sometimes it’s done by voting for the people who will lead our council, our local, or represent us as a delegate. On June 13th we have an election for the position of DC16 Business Manager – Secretary Treasurer, which there are 3 candidates. We also have elections for Business Representative for Local 718 (glaziers) and Local 12 (floor coverers). I will not tell you how I think you should vote but instead I’m asking you to vote, to show that 1237 local members care about who represents them in all areas. One candidate is promising to lower members’ dues, and the truth is that per the IUPAT members monthly dues will go down by at least half in 2027. The language is in the proposed bylaws for all locals in DC16. We need to make sure the people who are elected truly have the council, locals, and the members’ best interest.

I need your help, every 2 weeks I must post an article on this website, and once a month an article for the Labor Bulletin that is delivered to your house. I need you the members to help me by volunteering to do a member profile, let me know when there is a new member of your family, someone got engaged, married, or has anniversary. Local 1237 has over 300 members and I want you to share the good things in your life. Do you have an interesting hobby? Volunteer for a non-profit? Or just love to show off your kids or grandkids. If any of this appeals to you please let me know (916)407-8279.
