Finally July

Greetings Brothers and Sisters,

First, I would like to congratulate all of our apprentices who have successfully completed the apprenticeship program and are now journey workers. This is a major accomplishment that takes years of hard work, dedication, and commitment. You should be proud of what you have achieved. Graduation will be held on July 18 at Scott’s Seafood in Oakland, (by invite only) and I look forward to celebrating this important milestone with all of you.

It is amazing to see how far our apprenticeship program has come over the last 30 years. When I went through the program, it was only three years long, and much of my training was completed through correspondence courses. At that time, we had one small classroom in  Sacramento. Today, thanks to the hard work and vision of our Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee (JATC), along with the leadership of Alex Beltran and the training staff, we now have a state-of-the-art training facility that provides our members with some of the best education and hands-on training in the industry. The improvements made to our training program have helped prepare the next generation of glaziers to succeed in an ever-changing construction industry.

Another important topic I want to discuss is the AGMT certification. If you are an AGMT technician, it is critical that you complete your required 16 hours of  training in two years and make sure your training has been uploaded and documented. Keeping your certifications current is your responsibility and helps ensure you remain qualified for dispatch.

For our apprentices, AGMT certification has become an important milestone in your career. Passing the AGMT certification is now a requirement for advancement through the apprenticeship program. I encourage every apprentice to take this requirement seriously and prepare themselves for success.

I also want to recognize the STAR program and the many upgrade classes available for our journey workers. Continuing education is one of the best investments you can make in your career. The construction industry continues to evolve, and keeping your certifications current allows you to remain competitive and ready for dispatch when work becomes available.

If you need to renew certifications or attend additional training, please contact me as soon as possible so I can add you to our training availability list. If you register through the STAR program and a class is already full, do not give up. Make sure you place your name on the waiting list, as openings often become available.

Finally, I want to sincerely thank each one of you for the confidence you have shown by allowing me to continue serving as your Business Representative for the next four years. It is truly an honor to represent the members of Local 767, and I will continue working hard every day to protect our work, enforce our agreement, and represent your best interests.

I would also like to congratulate Business Manager/Secretary-Treasurer Robert Williams on his election as well as Regional Director/ Business Representative Steve Belong of Local 12 and Business Representative Trevor Long of Local 718 on their election victories. I look forward to working alongside each of them as we continue strengthening District Council 16 and serving our members throughout Northern California.
