Required Certifications for Journeyman Painters
As of January 1, 2025:
Journeyman painters must have the following certifications:
- Fall Protection (including Ladder Safety and Harassment Training)
- Booms and Lifts
By January 1, 2026:
Journeyman painters must obtain the following certifications:
- OSHA 10 o OSHA 30
- Capacitación en andamios

Bay Area Painters and Tapers Pension Fund Benefits Update
- On November 18, 2021, the Trustees voted to retroactively increase the multiplier from 1% to 1.5%, applying to the period from July 1, 2003 to December 31, 2020. You are eligible for this benefit if you worked a minimum of 400 hours in the calendar year 2020.
- Effective January 1, 2024, The Pension Trustees approved to increase benefit accruals for participants who have not retired yet and have 25 or more Years of Service by 1/3 of a percent.
- Effective January 1, 2025, if you complete 16 hours from July 1 to June 30 of the prior year, you will be credited in the immediate subsequent calendar year of $1.00 moved to on benefit from off-benefit contributions. You must complete the 16 hours of training between July 1 and June 30 each year to continue to receive the $1.00 in the following Calendar Year.
- On November 7, 2024, the Trustees decided to retroactively increase the multiplier by 0.5% for the period from July 1, 2003 to December 31, 2023. To qualify for this benefit, you must have worked a minimum of 400 hours in the calendar year 2023.
- The Trustees decided to retroactively increase the multiplier by 0.5% for the period of July 1, 2003 to December 31, 2024. To qualify for this benefit, you must have worked a minimum of 400 hours in the calendar year of 2024.
