Coming to a Jobsite Near You

Last week the IUPAT General President Jimmy Williams Jr. and his team spent a week with the DC16 Staff training them on COR 1028 Building Union Power. This was a train the trainer so that the DC16 staff can present this to the members.
Building Union Power Phase 1 is broken into 4 sections. Section 1 is titled Constructions Unions: Market Share Past and Present, it talks about market share from the IUPAT’s inception in 1887 through the present, total membership, and membership trends. Section 2 is titled History of our Union and is exactly that, our union history. Section 3 is titled Our Value Statement – One Union One Family This starts in 2010 through the present, union obstacles, and how full affiliation made all local unions more powerful. Section 4 is titled Member Empowerment – Ways Members Can Build Power within the Union and has 4 phases of member empowerment. Phase 1 is Base Building, Phase 2 is Engagement, Phase 3 is Education, and Phase 4 is Building Power, and all phases have to do with the members.
The Sacramento region is working on setting a date in April to start giving Building Union Power to the members. I hope you will attend and see that we all need to recommit to our Union so we can grow in membership, work hours and empower union members. In the weeks coming you will see the DC16 staff on jobsites asking 3 questions.
Question 1 – What can your union assist you with?
Question 2 – What can the union do to get you active?
Question 3 – What is the biggest challenge the union faces at this moment?
I ask that you be honest and if you think you shouldn’t say it, please say it. This is your chance to let us know exactly how you feel, good, bad, or indifferent. I hope to see you out in the field.
In Solidarity,
Randy Rojas
