Certifications

By now all the Painters should be aware that there are a number of Certifications that Journey Workers need to obtain, and then keep current in order to be eligible for a dispatch  as outlined in the Collective Bargaining Agreement.  Starting July 1, 2027 Lead Awareness for Commercial Painters and AMPP Lead for Industrial Painters will be required. Lead Awareness is now being taught with CPR and Harassment Prevention. They must be from the Unions Training Center, 3rd party certs are not accepted. See expert from ARTICLE 11 Section 15;

Each DC16 Journeyperson and above (Painter) shall obtain and maintain the certifications and training outlined below. The curriculum for such continuing education shall be established and provided by the Finishing Trades Institute of Northern California and Nevada (“FTI”) and made available through the STAR Program. They shall possess a valid and updated training card and provide documented proof of training to their Employer and the FTI. The Union shall not dispatch any DC16 Journeymen without proof of training. 

  1. Each Journeyperson and above (Commercial Painter) shall successfully complete and maintain the following:
  1. Fall Protection (USACE EM385), include ladder safety,
  2. Mobile Elevated Worker Platforms,
  3. Harassment Training,
  4. OSHA-10 or OSHA-30,
  5. Scaffold Training, and
  6. Lead Awareness (by July 1, 2027)
  1. Each Journeyperson and above (Industrial & Bridge Painter) shall successfully complete and maintain the following:
  1. OSHA-10
  2. Scaffold Training
  3. Harassment Training 
  4. CAS Level 2 Certifications ( for spray painters and blasters only),
  5. Hanging Platforms Training,
  6. Mobile Work Platforms,
  7. Fall Protection (USACE EM385), including Ladder Safety, and
  8. AMPP Le4ad Awareness (by July 1, 2027)
