District Council 16 was proud to welcome Nevada Attorney General and candidate for Nevada Governor Aaron Ford to our Nevada training center for a tour focused on apprenticeship opportunities, workforce development, and the future of skilled trades in Nevada.

During the visit, Aaron Ford met directly with apprentices, instructors, and union leaders to learn more about the importance of apprenticeship programs and the role they play in building a highly skilled, safe, and productive workforce. Apprentices shared real concerns about work opportunities, utilization on public projects, and the need to create more pathways for workers to enter and remain in the trades. Ford emphasized that expanding apprenticeship programs and vocational training must remain a priority to help working families achieve economic stability and affordability.
Discussions also focused on protecting workers, strengthening prevailing wage enforcement, and ensuring public dollars are invested into a skilled and trained workforce. District Council 16 leaders highlighted concerns surrounding apprenticeship utilization exemptions on public works projects and the importance of accountability to ensure apprentices are getting opportunities to work and learn on the job.

Ford reaffirmed his long-standing support for organized labor, opposition to right-to-work laws, and commitment to policies that support working people. “Most folks just want a good job, healthcare, a home, and the ability to support their kids,” Ford shared during the discussion. He also thanked the apprentices and members for speaking honestly about the challenges they face and stated their feedback will help shape his economic and workforce development plans for Nevada.

District Council 16 appreciates Aaron Ford taking the time to tour the facility, meet with our members, and engage in meaningful conversations about the future of apprenticeship programs and protecting good union jobs in Nevada.
