Brothers and Sisters,
I hope this message finds you all doing well.
As summer officially comes to a close, most of the summer repaint projects have either wrapped up or are in the final stages of completion. With that being said, we have received many calls from members looking to get on the out-of-work list.
We do have a lot of work coming up in the Sacramento area, so if you are not currently working, make sure you put your name on the out-of-work list. Apprentices, please remember that if you are out of work for more than three days, you should be placing your name on the out-of-work list, in accordance with our Collective Bargaining Agreements.
Journeyman Painters: Please keep in mind that you will need to have your required certifications current in order to be dispatched when you return to work.
As a reminder, below is the language from the CBA regarding the required certifications for dispatch:
Commercial Painters
(a) Each Journeyperson and above (Commercial Painter) shall successfully complete and maintain the following:
- Fall Protection (USACE EM385), including Ladder Safety
- Mobile Elevated Worker Platforms
- Harassment Training
- OSHA-10 or OSHA-30
- Scaffolding Training
- Lead Awareness (by July 1, 2027)
Industrial & Bridge Painters

STAR Classes
STAR classes are now available on the website through July 2027. Make sure you visit the website and sign up for classes so you can earn the qualifications needed to attend the STAR Picnic in 2027.
If a class is full, you can call the STAR Program and ask to be placed on the waiting list. If there are enough members on the waiting list, another class may be added. In some cases, they may also be able to expand the class to accommodate additional members.
Please take advantage of these opportunities to earn your STAR credit. This can help ensure that you receive credit for attending the class rather than losing the opportunity by doing a walk-in on the day of the class.
Local 487 Membership Meetings
As always, Local 487 membership meetings are held on the second Monday of every month at 5:30 PM.
Next month, we will be holding nominations for Recording Secretary, Warden, and Member at Large.
We encourage everyone to attend, stay informed, and participate in your union.
Hope to see you there!
In Solidarity,
William Gonzalez
