Brother Rufino 40 years of dedicated service

Thank you to all our siblings, colleagues, family and friends that came out to make the 2026 DC16 Community Day of action such a success. In collaboration with Keep Oakland Beautiful and District 6 Councilmember Kevin Jenkins, we were able to beautify the iconic Arroyo Viejo Park and Recreation Center. Our members came out in force with 85 total volunteers participating in this year’s event where we removed graffiti, painted park benches, tables and planter boxes, removed litter, and planted trees. Through our efforts we were able to give this community park a much-needed facelift and revitalize its beauty just in time for the community to enjoy all summer. Once again, we have shown our community what our union represents and why we have the best membership in Northern California. From Councilmember Kevin Jenkins, the community in District 6 and all of us at DC16, thank you all for donating a little of your valuable time to help with our ongoing efforts to “Keep Oakland Beautiful”.

On Thursday, April 9^th we had the privilege to honor our brother and my dear friend Robin Rufino for 40 years of dedicated service to DC16 and Local 3. Brother Rufino joined our union in 1985 and has worked for Bayside Interiors for his entire career. Following in his father’s footsteps, at the age of 22 he became a Drywall Finisher. During his time with Bayside he has been a leader, running work as a foreman and mentoring many apprentices that came behind him. His leadership qualities also lead him to becoming the President of Local 3, where I was lucky to learn from him as his Vice President. His positivity during difficult times and constant encouragement left a lasting impact on me and our membership. Thank you for being a dedicated union brother for 40 years!

We are celebrating 75 amazing siblings in the month of May. From everyone here at Local 3, we want to wish you all a very Happy Birthday!! During this month we celebrate the Taurus and the Gemini.
