It’s All in the STARs

Posted October 17, 2025

Brothers and Sisters,

I hope this article finds you working and enjoying the break from the summer heat. The Out of Work List has been growing in the last month, but several members have been put to work. To remain on the list, you must call on the first day of every month. Apprentices if you are not working per the Collective Bargaining Agreement (Contract) you must,

“Article 10 Section (h) When an Apprentice is not worked by an Employer for three (3) consecutive working days (project or weather delays, Holidays, DDOs, and weekend excluded), the Apprentice has the right to put their name on the Out-of-Work List and seek their own employment with other signatory Employers. When Employment is ended by the Employer, the Employer shall provide the JATC with a separation notice. The notice shall be on documents provided by the JATC.”

On October 7th at the Membership Meeting, the 26 members in attendance voted to re-allocate 10 cents from our annuity and put it into the STAR’s Program. We have been talking for the last several months that the STAR’s Board of Directors has not increased the 25 cent per hour contribution in its 18-year history of the program. To continue the program as it has been they are requiring a 10-cent increase. I want to thank the 14 members who voted to continue funding the program. Most of our members believe that the program is there to give away cars, tv’s, I Pads, etc. The STARs Program is there if you need a certification like OSHA 30, Booms and Lifts, Forklift Certification, and First Aid/CPR. Every one of our members should have OSHA 30 and First Aid/CPR. The First Aid CPR needs to be renewed every 2 years.

The year is quickly coming to a close and I want to remind you that the Annual Christmas Meeting will be held on December 2nd, here at the union hall. Invitations will go out soon. We will also have our 2nd Annual Retirees Christmas Luncheon on December 4th, also here at the union hall. Invitations will also go out soon. I hope to see all of you who can attend. I have been trying to do more member profiles as you guys seem to like them. If you would like to be featured in a member profile, please let me know and I will make it happen. I would really like to get a few retirees who would be willing to do a member profile. I hope to see you at the next Membership Meeting on November 4th.
