DC16 & CARA Partner to Empower Retirees: Locals 376 and 741 Host Union Luncheon to Mobilize Support for Worker Causes

District Council 16 (DC16) is proud to announce an exciting partnership with the California Alliance for Retired Americans (CARA), aimed at strengthening retiree involvement in legislative advocacy and ongoing union efforts. As part of this initiative, Locals 376 and 741 recently hosted a successful luncheon that brought together retired members for a day of connection, solidarity, and action.

Held at the local union hall, the luncheon was more than just a reunion—it was a call to action. Retirees gathered to hear from Union leader and past DC16 Business Manager (Chris Christophersen), about the critical role retired union members play in shaping public policy, protecting worker rights, and defending the hard-won benefits that generations of union members fought for.

Our retirees are the backbone of this organization. They built the strength of our union, and they still have a vital role to play in helping us fight for working people across California.

During the event, Chris spoke about their ongoing campaigns on issues such as Social Security, Medicare, pension protection, housing, and long-term care—highlighting how union retirees can directly influence legislation at the state and federal level.

Many retirees in attendance signed up to join future advocacy efforts, including letter-writing campaigns, rallies, and legislative visits.

DC16’s collaboration with CARA is just getting started, but the message was clear: the experience, passion, and wisdom of our retirees are needed now more than ever.

Whether it’s defending union rights, pushing for affordable healthcare, or protecting retirement security, our retirees are ready to stand up, speak out, and take action.

If you’re a DC16 retiree interested in getting involved, please reach out to Chris Christophersen 510 304-7318 to sign up.

United We Stand—Across Generations.
