Hermanos y Hermanas,
On Thursday July 9., 2026 UA Local 246 held an area standards picket on the Eagle Mountain Casino Project in Porterville on a Low Road out of area Plumbing Contractor. I want to thank all our DC16 Members and DC36 Members that are working for KHSS on the project that observed and did not cross the line. Staying United with our Brothers and Sisters of the UA ensures that there will be strength in numbers and I am sure that the Members of UA Local 246 will observe and stand with us on any future actions we may have. Again, thank you for being High Performance High Value
DC16/LU294/IUPAT MEMBERS!
The following are some bullet points on why it is important to observe picket Lines.
Solidarity with fellow workers: A picket line represents workers acting together. Respecting it demonstrates support for coworkers who are striking or engaged in another labor action.
Maintaining bargaining power: A strike is generally more effective when work slows or stops. If large numbers of workers cross the picket line and continue working, the employer may face less pressure to negotiate.
Protecting long-term gains: Many union members believe that honoring picket lines helps preserve wages, benefits, safety standards, and working conditions that benefit current and future employees.
Mutual support among unions: Unions often support one another during labor disputes. Respecting another union’s picket line can reinforce relationships and increase the likelihood of reciprocal support in future disputes.
Following union values or rules: Some unions encourage or require members to honor picket lines, subject to their constitution, bylaws, or applicable labor laws. Members may also face internal union consequences for crossing a picket line, depending on the circumstances.
Showing commitment to collective action: Collective bargaining is based on workers acting together. Many unions members view crossing a picket line as weakening that collective effort.
Supporting workplace fairness: Workers may believe the strike addresses issues such as pay, staffing, scheduling, health and safety, or job security. Refusing to cross the picket line can be a way of supporting those goals.
Building credibility and trust: Honoring a picket line can strengthen trust among coworkers, demonstrating a willingness to stand with colleagues during difficult negotiations.
In Unity!
