Labor Day: A Tribute to the Work That Builds Us
Posted septiembre 4, 2026
Brothers and Sisters, I hope you are all doing well.
Labor Day isn’t just the unofficial end of summer — it’s a day set aside to honor the men and women whose labor built this country, brick by brick, floor by floor. It began in the late 19th century as a response to grueling working conditions and the fight for fair treatment, and it stands today as a reminder of what organized labor has won: the eight-hour day, safer job sites, fair wages, and a voice for workers at the table.
For unions like ours, Labor Day is personal. It’s a chance to reflect on the generations of tradespeople who organized, bargained, and sometimes sacrificed so that today’s workers could have dignity on the job. Every wage standard, every safety protection, every grievance procedure we rely on exists because working people decided they were stronger together than alone.
For IUPAT District Council 16, Labor Day reflects the strength of a regional brotherhood — painters, glaziers, floor coverers, and allied trades across our jurisdiction standing united, holding contractors to fair standards, and making sure the work in our area is done by skilled, properly trained union hands.
For Local 1512, this day belongs to every floor coverer who shows up, does the job right, and carries the trade forward. It’s a day to honor our members’ craftsmanship, recommit to protecting the jurisdiction we’ve fought hard to secure, and remember that the strength of this Local comes from the solidarity of its members — past, present, and future.
This Labor Day, we don’t just rest. We remember, we honor, and we recommit to the work ahead.
