Endorsed Candidates

Posted marzo 20, 2026

Political Season is Ramping up, and the team has been talking to candidates about their races and priorities. Being involved in politics, especially at the local level, is imperative to keep work going. Getting candidates elected whose views align with ours on things like Project Labor Agreements, Skilled and Trained and Local Hires ensure that projects are done Union with Area Standard Wages and puts our members to work!

District Council 16 recently announced its endorsement for Governor of California.

Eric Swalwell

So far locally, 913 has officially announced two endorsements.

David Canepa, who has long been a friend of Labor. His support typically manifests through legislative action that prioritizes local hire, fair wages, and worker protections. In his work as a San Mateo County Supervisor, Canepa has been an advocate for Project Labor Agreements on all public works projects in the county. Under his leadership as Board President, San Mateo County launched an Office of Labor Standards & Enforcement, that investigates low road contractors with things like Wage Theft and Worker Misclassification. He has been a champion for the San Mateo Trades Introduction Program helping to secure funding, ensuring young people in San Mateo have access to the trades and a pathway to the middle class. David has personally been assisting us with our Thanksgiving Turkey Drive for many years, helping us secure the location we us and expanding the event to a clothes and toy drive. You can find him there every year helping us unload the truck and passing out Turkeys to the community. This year David is running for County Assessor Clerk Recorder. We know that David will use whatever position he is in to further benefit the working people of San Mateo County and we are proud to stand with him throughout his campaign!

Alan Wong has a proven track record with Labor as well. Before being elected to City College Board of Trustees in 2020, Wong served as a Union Organizer for SCIU United Healthcare Workers. During his tenure as CCSF Board President he oversaw the colleges facilities and bond-funded projects, providing steady work for local union members. Wong was appointed as San Francisco D4 Supervisor for the Sunset District by Mayor Laurie in December 2025. Shortly after being sworn in, he was a key vote in passing the “Family Zoning Plan’. Such legislation is critical as it unlocks new construction projects, directly leading to more union jobs in the Sunset and Parkside neighborhoods. Alan has a record of supporting Project Labor Agreements, ensuring Union Labor is used! Alan is up for election this June and Local 913 encourages members who live in the Sunset to support him! We are excited to see positive change under his leadership.

As the races go on, District Council 16s West Bay Team will continue to speak with candidates to find and support the ones that make sense for working class families. Keep an eye out for campaign events we will be assisting our endorsees with. Your help is what could make the difference in pushing them over the finish line!
