On July 10., the Local 3 membership voted on our new DC16 By Laws. We would like to take some time to thank everyone that came out to support this very important vote. If you did not get a chance to vote at local 3 you can still vote at any of the meeting locations on the dates listed below. We would like to take this moment to educate our members about the importance of voting. The truth is that every person’s vote counts! For us to make democracy effective, as a union we must be an active group of participants, not simply observers. Voting is always a better form of expression than not voting and constantly criticizing the current situation. Be a voice within our union and help create the changes that you want to see. One who does not vote has no right to complain. I have seen several important union elections that were decided by a single vote. Don’t let someone else make the decision for you. Get out and VOTE!

The third week of the month is almost here again, and we still haven’t seen the participation that DC16 is known for. Our next monthly VAC Freeway Cleanup in partnership with the CBTU-NCC will be on July 19., 9am-11am. This is a family friendly VAC event that is held every third Saturday of the month where we help keep Oakland beautiful by cleaning debris off the sides of the 880 freeway in between the High St and 66. exits, as well as the Damon Slough Staging Area. I am seeking more supporters from our DC16 membership to help make this event even more successful than it already is, and I appreciate everyone that has come to support us in the past. I hope to see everyone there who can attend. Thank You!
The Drywall Finishers received their final pay raise on the current contract which became effective on July 1, 2025, in the amount of $5.00. This increase pushes the Bay Area taxable net wage to $67.41 and the total package to $102.48 making them the first trade in DC16 with a total package of $100+ dollars. The allocation breakdown is as follows.
$3.54 Wages
$0.35 Health and Welfare if needed. All shall be paid to the annuity until 12/31/25, after reallocated to H&W.
Anualidad de $1.00
$0.11 Administrative Dues Check-Off
Also keep in mind that as we just received our final raise, this also means that our contract will be up next year. With that in mind I would like to encourage you to all begin the conversations in the field about the things we would like to see in our upcoming contract. Let the Glaziers be an example of what it means to fight for what you want. Begin preparing for the unknown by saving some money in the event that there is a strike. Be PROACTIVE and not REACTIVE!
School is almost back and when the new year begins there will be a lot of kids that don’t have the basic supplies that will be needed to start the year off strong. Students who start school with the supplies they need in the classroom and at home are more motivated, have higher self-esteem, and enjoy a better learning experience overall. That’s why DC16 and Local 3 are working together with the Lend a Hand Foundation to ensure that underserved children in Alameda county have access to the supplies needed to get off to a great start by participating in their 26. Annual Packing Event. This is a family friendly VAC where we will be filling the backpacks with various supplies to be distributed to children in need. We’re asking all that’s able to come to support this amazing event and let’s help our youth start off this new year prepared and excited about being back in school with the supplies and cool backpacks.
