The\nOakland A\u2019s are a long-time provider of thousands of good union jobs that are\ncritical to Oaklanders and their families. The A\u2019s are planning to move from\ntheir current home at the Oakland Coliseum to a new, privately financed ballpark\nlocated at the Howard Terminal site near Jack London Square.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If\nthe A\u2019s and the Oakland City Council can\u2019t find an agreement on the new\nproposed ballpark at Howard Terminal, thousands of jobs and the billions of\ndollars of economic activity will leave our community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Alameda\nLabor supports the A\u2019s proposed Howard Terminal ballpark! The project proposed\nwill protect existing Union jobs and bring thousands of NEW Union jobs for\nOakland workers, both during construction and for the long-term. It will also\nprovide a significant boost to Oakland\u2019s economy and create substantial\neconomic activity in the Howard Terminal area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Benefits\nof the A\u2019s project include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

JOBS:\nThe new ballpark will protect more than 2,000 Union jobs that will disappear if\nthe team leaves Oakland and will create more than 4,000 new jobs at the new\nballpark and surrounding development. Construction will also create an\nestimated 2,700 new Union jobs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

ECONOMIC\nACTIVITY: Construction on the ballpark will provide a significant boost to our\neconomy at a time when it\u2019s more needed than ever. Construction is estimated to\ngenerate $8.7 billion in economic activity, and the ballpark is estimated to\ngenerate an additional $2.5 billion annually once opened.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

HOUSING:\nThe proposed project includes 3,000 new units of housing, which will include\naffordable housing units.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

PARKS:\nThe project also includes 18+ acres of new, publicly accessible parks on the\nOakland waterfront.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

ENVIRONMENTAL\nPROTECTIONS: The Howard Terminal project will protect Oakland from sea level\nrise and will be built to an environmental gold standard. Cleanup of toxic\ncontaminants in soil and groundwater is also included in the A\u2019s proposal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

COMMUNITY\nBENEFITS: this agreement will include hundreds of millions of dollars in\ncritically needed benefits for the Oakland community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
