La semana pasada, en una escandalosa muestra de antisindicalismo, el presidente Donald Trump y la secretaria de Seguridad Nacional, Kristi Noem, anunciaron que el gobierno federal... Poner fin a su convenio colectivo<\/a> con los trabajadores de la Administraci\u00f3n de Seguridad del Transporte (TSA), que est\u00e1n representados por la Federaci\u00f3n Estadounidense de Empleados del Gobierno (AFGE). \u00a0

Mientras la administraci\u00f3n Trump busca revertir protecciones sindicales cr\u00edticas para 47.000 empleados de TSA en todo el pa\u00eds, pensamos que val\u00eda la pena echar un vistazo a qu\u00e9 es la negociaci\u00f3n colectiva y por qu\u00e9 es importante.\u00a0 \u00a0<\/strong>

At its core, collective bargaining is the fundamental right of union workers to negotiate with their employers over such things as pay, benefits and workplace safety. It creates a binding contract so workers are protected and have certainty around their job, salary and rights at work.\u00a0The 1935 National Labor Relations Act established collective bargaining as the \u201cpolicy of the United States.\u201d \u00a0<\/strong>

Put simply, Trump\u2019s decision to unilaterally end the collective bargaining agreement with TSA workers \u2013 which had just been negotiated and was set to last until 2031 \u2013 is an open assault on union workers and clear retaliation against AFGE for its outspoken opposition to Trump\u2019s actions against federal workers.\u00a0 \u00a0 \u201cThey gave as a justification a completely fabricated false claim about union officials \u2013 making clear this action has nothing to do with efficiency, safety or homeland security. This is merely a pretext for attacking the rights of regular working Americans across the country because they happen to belong to a union,\u201d said AFGE National President Everett Kelley en una declaraci\u00f3n<\/a>.\u00a0 \u00a0<\/strong>

While federal law generally protects workers\u2019 right to strike, that protection does not extend to federal employees, including TSA workers.\u00a0 \u00a0 Instead, this battle will be waged in the courts of law and public opinion.
