In January 1970, the union changed its name after General President S. Frank \u201cBud\u201d Raftery decided that it should include the words \u201callied trades.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lh7-rt.googleusercontent.com\/docsz\/AD_4nXduZeZ_nET-5vz80ENNdZ77dHzTvekSi827Gn5GVYBFpiF2RUNh_OLWH6ykXg5hJ_n8ClNWUSJWWLXfA3ei6iWt5tMVqRYxLERkQcOHdGUMNl26Pf5TNnk1eXoZ3v63T2us3NnwywYwnTt-LToo8Q?key=rAxane8MwI39U7B7bxi5SI0R\" alt=\"A logo with a bear and textDescription automatically generated\" style=\"width:300px;height:auto\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>With the female membership within the I.B.P.A.T. growing, General President Michael Monroe announced a new name at the 1999 general convention. Our leadership understood that it was time that for us to reflect a more inclusive union that welcomes both men and women. In January 2000 we officially became \u201cInternational Union of Painters and Allied Trades\u201d (I.U.P.A.T.).
